Refugees and displaced learners

EDT has nearly 30 years’ experience of supporting education in emergencies and refugee settings, and working in fragile conflict-affected states. We provide education response support in times of crisis and technical assistance for post-crisis capacity building, including programmes for Syrian and Palestinian learners and their teachers. We also build on the findings of our multi-country research projects, to develop programmes that enable teachers to meet the needs of refugees and displaced learners, and support governments with national education system reform.

Engeza

Engeza is a technical assistance hub supporting foundational literacy and numeracy programmes across Sub-Saharan Africa. Working in partnership with the Gates Foundation, EDT’s role is to manage the $1.5 million Engeza fund and operate the hub.

TEACH programme's new social and emotional learning initiative welcomes EDT as principal implementing partner

EDT has been appointed principal implementing partner for Think Equal’s new social and emotional learning (SEL) component of the UK-funded TEACH (Teacher Effectiveness and Equitable Access for all Children) programme in Zimbabwe. As SEL component lead, EDT will now build upon its impressive track record of delivering teacher professional development and conducting school inspections within the TEACH programme.

We are delighted to share that our work on the UK government-funded Skills Bootcamps in Early Years has achieved a ‘significant progress’ Ofsted rating, across the areas of leadership and management, and quality of provision.

Early Career Training Programme

Based on the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF) we are supporting teachers with our new Early Career Training Programme (ECTP) for Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE). Available from the 2025-26 academic year onwards, our new programme offers specialist training for early career teachers and mentors. It helps them improve practice while building confidence and resilience, leading to better job satisfaction and retention.

Global Dialogue convenes international education community to discuss transforming education systems

On Monday 20th January, we were thrilled to host esteemed education leaders at our Global Dialogue event in London. Global Dialogue is designed to convene important conversations within the education and international communities, about how improving education and skills outcomes can increase life chances around the world. This year’s event invited attendees to consider the theme ‘Transforming education systems: How can effective education policy ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people?’
